BRASSTOWN VALLEY RESORT CATERS TO SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS Shepherd Center’s Marcus Community Bridge Program and Camp Twin Lakes partner with resort for special retreat YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. (April 1, 2008) – Brasstown Valley Resort, one of the state’s premier golf and meeting facilities located in the North Georgia mountains, announced today that it will host a camp program April 27-29 for kids with recent spinal and brain injuries. This special camp is in partnership with Shepherd Center’s Marcus Community Bridge Program of Atlanta and Camp Twin Lakes of Rutledge, Ga. The camp retreat focuses on the healing and rehabilitation of recently injured kids and allows them to come together at Brasstown Valley Resort for two days of sports and outdoor recreation activities including horseback riding, golf, tennis and fishing. Brasstown Valley Resort’s unique wilderness setting, array of outdoor amenities and soft adventure programs enables kids of varying ability levels to participate in multiple activities. When not taking part in the planned activities, participants can enjoy exploring wheelchair accessible nature trails or take advantage of the indoor pool. “We’re honored to participate in such a valuable program and give back to kids with recent injuries,” said Charles Burton, Brasstown Valley Resort general manager. “We coordinated a similar program last November and there’s no better feeling than offering these kids outdoor sports and travel opportunities and then witnessing the pure enjoyment and gratitude they show.” The resort, owned by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, will subsidize the cost of the rooms and food and beverage for the participants and staff from the Shepherd Center and Camp Twin Lakes. Brasstown Valley Resort has also constructed an elevated platform with a ramp so guests in wheelchairs can mount horses and participate in the horseback riding activities. Shepherd Center’s Marcus Community Bridge Program and Camp Twin Lakes, a year-round camp facility with programs for children with serious illnesses and special needs, coordinate this program funded by a Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation grant.
